Owl Food Chains & Webs
Soon we will be dissecting owl pellets to determine what owls eat. Owl pellets are the remains of animals that the owls cannot digest, such as fur, hair, feathers, and most importantly for our identification, bones. An owl throws up the owl pellet. You can tell a lot from bones - especially skulls. After we identify the types of species our owl, we will construct food chains and, ultimately, a food web that shows all the different organisms in the owl's community.
